Ladies underwear can make a romantic and sexy gift for birthdays, Valentines day, Christmas or an anniversary. You should already have a idea whether your lingerie gift might be sexy, romantic or just plain naughty! Lingerie colours to flatter hair and skin colour

Firstly, your choice of lingerie gift & colour is very much a matter of personal taste; however here are a few tips anyway!

BLACK: Black looks great with any hair or skin colour combination. Black is especially flattering for Blondes and Redheads.

RED: Red looks good with most hair and skin colours, especially Brunettes. Avoid for Redheads.

WHITE: White looks good with most hair and skin colours, especially Brunettes.

PINK: Pink looks good with most hair and skin colours, especially sun tanned or naturally dark skin. Avoid for Redheads.

GREEN: Green is for Redheads! Best avoided for Blondes, but otherwise a great colour for most hair and skin colours.

BLUE: Dark Blue is for Blondes! Other lighter shades of blue suit most hair and skin colours.

YELLOW: Yellow has to be treated carefully! It looks amazing with a sun tan or naturally dark skin. Great summer colour but may be best to avoid for Redheads.

Please remember this advice is subjective and only a general guide. A blonde with green eyes may adore green lingerie!

Types of Lingerie and Nightwear

Baby Doll: American term for a two piece nightie, usually with shoulder straps, often shaped around the bust and with solid or sheer material attached to the underside of the bust line. Often including a matching G-String or Thong. Worn in bed. Great baby doll lingerie gift idea for her and coming back in to fashion fast over the last few years.

Basque: Any tight fitting bodice garment.

Bra: Short term for brassiere. There are many types! Some of these styles are: Convertible Bras (changeable straps), Demi-cup Bras (top cut away worn with low-cut dresses), Push-Up Bras (with padding to lift the bosom), Shelf Bra (uplifting with nipples uncovered, often with under-wired support), Seamless Bras (smooth moulded cups which don't show under outerwear), Strapless Bras (wide sides and silicone stitching to keep the bra in place), etc.

Bustier: Bust to hip corset-like garment, usually trimmed in lace. Other features can include detachable garters, flexible boning, shoulder straps and lace up closing. More commonly an American term. To avoid over complicating matters, all Bustiers are classified as "Basques" in this shop.

Camisole: Essentially a sleeveless and sheer undergarment. Other names include Chemise, Tank, Vest or Cami-top.

Chemise: Loose fitting short nightie hanging from the shoulders. A chemise nightie is worn in bed, great gift idea for most women.

Corset: Body shaping underwear garment that has become popular as an outerwear garment in it's own right. Sexy corset - boned, close fitting and usually hooked and laced. Under bust types worn under outer garments, over bust types can be worn as outerwear.

Gown: Long nightdress - long night gown worn in bed. In the US a gown is also any long dress.

G-String & Thong: A G-String has a sting at the back of the panty instead of a fabric panel. A Thong has a little fabric at the rear and usually comes to a "Y" shape at the waistband. Teddy / Teddie: Essentially a camisole & combined panty. A teddie can be worn as an under garment or in bed.

Lingerie and Nightwear Sizing

There are two main types of sizes:

Dress Size (for sleepwear and some lingerie sets). We stock UK sizes 6 - 30.

Bra Size (for bras, basques, corsets and lingerie separates). We stock sizes from UK 32 with cup sizes from A - DD.

It's amazing how many men don't know their partners sizes. There is a lot of rubbish spoken about guessing sizes. If you have to rummage through her underwear drawer, pick a bra that she wears all the time because it is comfortable. Many women wear the wrong size bras.

By far the best way to know is to ask her. Most women will appreciate a lingerie gift. If you really are not sure if a lingerie gift will be welcome, is it not better to ask first?
